Premier League: A Two-Horse Race

Manchester United or Manchester City, who do you think will win the Premier League? After plenty of challenges
between the two, it is quite hard to point at one. If you are a fan of either team, wait for the decisive match on April 30th where the two top teams in the league will clash at the very edge for the Premier League title.
Several years ago, Manchester City could hardly make it to the finals and challenge the competitive teams such as Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, and their natural rivals Manchester United. Since 2008, when Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan bought the club, Manchester City started to develop their squad’s ability and afford valuable players. Recently, they have been considered as one of the biggest teams of the Premier League.
Sir Alex Ferguson, the manager of Manchester United, admires Manchester City; in an interview, he clarified, “It’s not absolutely conclusive that it will apply this season because you’ve got to admire City, and they’ve done exceptionally well and been top of the league for a long time.” These words are clearly expressions of admirations, and quite surprisingly are from the rival manager of City.
Manchester United, the team who has won the most league titles, did not have a good start from the beginning of the league. Sir Alex admittedly declared that his team’s performances are not as good as they were before yet he blames himself for the declining effectiveness of his team. He tried to give the young players a chance to prove themselves and benefit from them in the long run. Surely, he jeopardized the team’s chances for this season, but he was able to pull them back for another chance of winning the title again. Both City and United now sit at the top of the league table, well ahead of third-placed Arsenal, making this season’s title a twohorse race.
Coach Zico’s men now facethe biggest challenge of the WorldCup qualifiers: the final round. TenAsian teams remain in contentionfor a maximum of five spotsat the World Cup. These ten havebeen split into two groups of five.Iraq’s group contains Australia andJapan, two of Asia’s biggest teams, along with Jordan and Oman. The other group consists of South Korea,Lebanon, Uzbekistan, Qatar, and Iran. The first match will be played in June.
As years pass, un-notable teams rise and compete for leagues against the best known clubs in the world; the Premier League serves as evidence. For this very same reason, football is always interesting to follow.
