Awat newspaper is a non-partisan, independent,English newspaper published in the Sulaimany district of the Kurdistan Region of Iraq, founded on December, 2010. It is run by a number of young youth of Kurdish background.
Awat provides a variety of contemporary topics to a variety of contemporary readers. It is a general-interest newspaper that is run by a number of volunteer youths who believe that their writing can make a difference.
Awat welcomes any supporters regardless of age, religion, or political affiliation, given that no violation of the Awat code of ethics occurs.
The Awat website (awatnews.com) was launched in early October. Unlike several other websites which are template based, Awat was hand designed and crafted.
The website consists of monthly PDF archives of the newspaper, daily news articles about the Kurdish Region of Iraq, and polls of various kinds.

Amed L. Omar
Amed Latif Omar is the Co-founder,President,and editor of the community page of the Awat Newspaper.Amed is an undergraduate Business Administration major with a minor in Information Systems and Technology at the American University of Iraq Sulymaniya.In 2007,Amed founded and directed Social Awareness Voluntary Group,a grass roots initiative aiming to end cultural stigma's such as littering and promoting environmental cleanliness and critical thinking.His passion for volunteering in altruistic activities is his most renown characteristic. He is the logistics manager for the One-Shot project. He co-founded and was the Web Manager of Xendan English for a number of months.
Meer Ali
Meer Ako Ali (also known as Meer Rashid) was born on November 6, 1994 in Sulaimany,
Iraq. He is an undergraduate, valedictorian, writer, photographer, volunteer, and an
aspiring polymath. Meer is now the co-founder and editor-in-chief of Awat Newspaper
and writes columns for Kurdistan Tribune.
Bery Hoshiar Tofiq
Bery Hoshiar Tofiq (also known as Bery Majeed) is a Slemani resident born on the
26th of July 1993. She is a student at the American University of Iraq-Sulaimania
and is studying to be an engineer. She is a writer, and the deputy editor in chief
for Awat Newspaper.
Banu I. Ali
Banu is a 22 year old Information Technology student at the American University of
Iraq-Sulaimani. She spends most of her time on the computer reading and watching
tutorials about Web design and Developing. Editing is what she enjoys most.
Arsh L. Omar
Arsh is a 17 year old High school student in CSM.In his free time,he enjoys
photography,graphic designing,debating,and reading about theology.Arsh designed the
Awat logo among many of his other designs.
Dvien H.Ali
Dvien H.Ali was born in Sulaimani in 1989. Dvien is an engineering student at The American University of Iraq Sulaimani. He has an enormous appetite for technology. He spends most of his free time on computer seeking knowledge.

Arez Taha
Arez Taha Sadiq was born on April 18, 1994 in Sulaymaniyah, Iraq. He is an
undergraduate and a volunteer with a passion for serving his people and bringing
reform to his land through writing and journalism. He is currently the co-editor of
the News section of Awat Newspaper.
Razhan K. Ali
Razhan Kawa Ali was born on June 3, 1995 in Sulaimany Iraq. Having lived most of his
childhood in Europe, he is now a senior highschool student in his hometown. Outside
school,he is a writer,community volunteer,movie editor, and aspiring philosopher.
Razhan also enjoys a variety of hobbies including sports and a number of
mental-strategic games like chess. He now is the president of Vision and the Leisure
page editor for Awat.
Laylan Amir Attar
My name is Laylan Amir Ali Naji Attar. I was born in 1990. I'm
from Suliamani. My interests include media, sport,art, and learning languages. I Used to live in Baghdad for 17 years of my life.Currently, the editorial page editor for the Awat Newspaper.
Amir Muhsin
Optimist, University student, Volunteer, Human rights activist, Environmentalist, and a believer in humanity and being a world wide citizen. Born in March 27th, 1990 in Baghdad, Living in Slemani. Like to play sports, keep in touch with friends and simply try to enjoy life.
Berzy Bahzad Omer
Berzy Bahzad Omer (a.k.a. Berzy Majlis), born on June 8, 1992, is an undergraduate student at the American University of Iraq (AUIS). He is an aspiring information technologist. His hobbies include football, guitar, reading, and video editing; he also holds a deep interest in cars. A person with a love for his community, Berzy is determined in helping to shape Kurdistan’s future. He is currently the marketing and advertisement manager for Awat, and also an occasional writer.
